    On 05 September 2018 Scientific Conference “Russia-Vietnam: yesterday, today and tomorrow” on the occasion of the current visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade Nguyễn Phú Trọng, took place in St. Petersburg

    The Conference was held on the premises of St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

    About 100 participants were involved in the Event, including members of the scientific community, undergraduate students of St. Petersburg leading higher education institutions (St. Petersburg State University of Economics, North-West Institute of Management of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, St. Petersburg University), members of the Vietnamese diaspora in St. Petersburg and others.

    Presentations were made by S.L. Katanandov, Special Representative of the Governor of St. Petersburg for state-building and collaboration with the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, V.G. Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Prof. V.N. Kolotov, Head of Far East History Department, Faculty of Asian and African Studies of St. Petersburg University and N.V. Fedorov, Assistant Professor of American Studies Department of St. Petersburg University School of International Relations.

    At the Conference, welcome address from the Governor of St. Petersburg G.S. Poltavchenko was read out to the Conference participants.

    The City Government work and plans in cooperation with Vietnam, the role of Vietnam in developing relations between Russia and ASEAN as well as policies implemented by the Comrade Nguyễn Phú Trọng to combat corruption in Vietnam were being discussed. Further, summary of the culture and business mission of St. Petersburg to Ho Chi Minh City (the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) that took place in June this year has been made.

     At the conclusion of the Conference, Deputy Chairman of Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg V.G. Kalganov spoke of the forthcoming holding of the First Russia-Vietnam Youth Forum. He also invited everyone to participate in it.
