    On October 17, representatives of St. Petersburg City Administration held talks with a delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, led by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua

    At the meeting St. Petersburg was represented by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on External Relations of St. Petersburg Mr. V.Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policies and Interaction with Public Organizations Mr. B.Zastavny and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Public Service and HR policies of St. Petersburg Mr. A.Murashev.

    During the conversation, the parties discussed the implementation of the youth policies in the countries and some topical issues of cooperation.

    Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua said that he was impressed with the level of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi while attending its opening ceremony.

    Events of that kind, in his view, help to promote Russia around the World. He also thanked Russia for the Soviet Union's assistance to Vietnam in 1960-80s.

    Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua said that many people in Vietnam used to study Russian and appreciated Russian culture as well. He also considers it necessary to keep close relations between the countries.

    The head of Vietnamese delegation also said about the measures its government takes to support young people. For example, according to some government programs, young people have benefits in career development, may receive soft housing loans and others. He also stated that 27.5 per cent of Vietnam citizens are classified as young people (according to local law all persons between 16 and 30 are classified as young people).

    In response, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policies and Interaction with Public Organizations Mr. B.Zastavny spoke of St. Petersburg's experience in support for youth. He said that 22 per cent of locals are classified as young people (according to Russian law people from 22 to 30 are considered to be young people). Mr. B.Zastavny also invited Vietnamese delegation to visit St. Petersburg International Youth Forum, which is to be held on December 2-3, 2017.

    Deputy Chairman of the Committee on External Relations of St. Petersburg Mr. V.Kalganov thanked Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua for appreciation for the level of cooperation that existed between the countries. He also said, that during recent meeting with the Head of the National Assembly of Vietnam Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on the margins of 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly the sides decided to hold a conference dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the first visit of Ho Chi Minh (Nguyễn Ái Quốc) to Saint Petersburg. Committee on Youth Policies and Interaction with Public Organizations and Ho Chi Minh Institute of Saint Petersburg University will co-host the conference.

    In response, Mr. Nguyen Trong Thua invited representatives of the Committee on External Relations and Committee on Youth Policies and Interaction with Public Organizations to visit Vietnam for practical study of youth policies of Vietnam and exchange of experience.
