The purpose of the conference is to discuss activities of traditional religious organizations in strengthening national unity; analyze experience and mechanism of interaction of religious associations with the state and society in Europe and Asia; develop mechanisms for harmonizing ethnic and religious situation; and to counter religious extremism in the area of information.
The largest scientists from Europe and Asia, as well as influential religious figures from a number of Christian countries are expected to speak at the conference.
The conference was organized by the Council for Interaction with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation, the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, the Public Chamber Commission on Harmonization of Interethnic and Interreligious Relations, the St. Petersburg Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, Regional Spiritual Board of Muslims of St. Petersburg and North-West Russia, the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, Autonomous nonprofit organization "Center for Ethnoreligious Studies".
The conference is supported by the Administration of the Governor of St. Petersburg, the Administration of the Governor of the Leningrad Region, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in St. Petersburg, the Commission of the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg on the harmonization of interethnic and interfaith relations.
