    Ceremonial Opening of a New Exhibition “Japanese Garden”

    On May 28, 2010, the laying of new exhibition “Japanese Garden” took place at the Botanical Gardens in St.Petersburg.

    On May 28, 2010, the laying of new exhibition “Japanese Garden” took place at the Botanical Gardens in St.Petersburg.

    The principal architect of this project is Ms Yamada Midori, Professor “SO-KATOKU” (the highest level of Ikenobo Professor) and President of Ikebana-Ikenobo Institute Affiliation in Russia, who regularly runs master-classes on ikebana and lectures on creation of Japanese-style gardens, in St.Petersburg, Moscow, and other cities in Russia and CIS.

    The project of the garden was approved and encouraged by the Scientific Council of the Botanical Institute named after V.L. Komarov at RussianAcademy of Sciences.

    The event was attended by Mr I. Kawabata, Consul General of Japan in St.Petersburg, V.A. Kalinina, Teacher of Japanese Center, and N.I. Lukicheva, Deputy Chief of the Committee for External Relations.

    As a part of the inauguration, a commemorative charter was signed to honor the laying of the "Japanese Garden", and three cherry trees (sakura) were planted on grounds of the to-be garden. A solemn tea ceremony was also held.
