    Year of China in Russia entering active phase

    Head of the Press Office's International Affairs Department Jiang Weijiang said that a Chinese Information enter is to be opened in Moscow on March 14 to cover some 200 events of the Year until October.

    Yu Xingyi, the deputy head of the Chinese Culture Ministry's International Relations Department, said that officials with the two countries' culture ministries would speak at a joint press briefing on March 23 about the Year's cultural program.

    Yu said that performers would give a gala concert in Moscow in March 26 to open the Year of China in Russia. The concert will feature dancers of China's Central Ballet Company, and performers of the state song and dance ensemble and the world famous Beijing Opera.

    According to the Chinese Culture Ministry, besides Moscow and St.Petersburg, events of the Year will be held in Kazan in other cities of the Volga region and also in the Khabarovsk Territory and Vladivostok.

    During a cruise along the Volga with Chinese performers participating concerts will be given to audiences in Volga cities, who are not acquainted with Chinese culture well enough.

    Exhibits from the famous Forbidden City, or Gugong, will be brought to Russia. An exhibition of exhibits will include Chinese porcelain, silk and modem prints. The exhibition will travel across Russia's European part and Far East.
