    The Russian Language is one of the six official languages of the UN. According to statistic data of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Russia the Russian language is native for 170 million people and 350 million people can understand the language.

    The Day of Mother Language was introduced after the 30th session of the General Conference by UNESCO in November 1999 and is celebrated annually on the 21st of February.
