The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant committees of the Administration of St. Petersburg: the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, the Committee on Education, the Committee on Science and Higher Education, the Committee on Press and Media Relations; as well as the leaders of educational organizations and cultural institutions: St. Petersburg State University, Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, St. Petersburg State University "Writer's House", St. Petersburg branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, Theater and Festival Baltic House.

As Sergey Markov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, said at the opening of the meeting: “Acting Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov set us the task of developing a consolidated plan to support Russian schools abroad, taking into account both state support and opportunities cultural, educational and museum institutions of St. Petersburg. "

During the meeting, the participants discussed the possibilities of supporting the study of the Russian language, literature and history in schools abroad, the distribution of books in Russian through the library system in the partner cities of St. Petersburg, the promotion of Russian theaters with performances based on works by Russian authors, the organization of teaching classes in Russian language and Russian literature for employees of foreign libraries and Russian theaters, etc.

The director of the Writer's House, Evgeny Lukin, spoke about the participation of St. Petersburg in book exhibitions abroad, in particular, he noted events in Helsinki (Finland) and Minsk (Belarus). He also said that this fall, with the participation of the Committee on External Relations of St. Petersburg, meetings are being prepared for St. Petersburg and foreign writers in Estonia, Latvia and Israel.

The Committee on Education and the Committee on Science and Higher Education discussed the issue of supporting Russian language festivals abroad and various contests and competitions for knowledge of the Russian language or reading poetry and prose in Russian.

The Education Committee said that this year 283 students, including from 10 countries, took part in the Remote Olympiad on the History and Culture of St. Petersburg.

Representatives of St. Petersburg universities - St. Petersburg State University and the Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen - talked about their work in the field of language testing.

Among the existing problems is the head of the Interuniversity center of bilingual and multicultural education of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen Elizabeth Hamraeva also spoke about the lack of teaching abroad not only the Russian language, but also subject teaching (mathematics, physics, biology, etc.) in Russian.

The first deputy chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Sergei Markov, noted that when organizing cultural and business missions and Days of St. Petersburg abroad, the educational program always takes into account the educational component, master classes for subject teachers are taught, open classes are held, and also, importantly, teaching and teaching literature in Russian is transmitted to schools and educational centers.

A separate topic was the support of Russian-language theaters abroad. As noted, through theatrical performances, viewers get acquainted with the best examples of Russian culture. No wonder that interest in Russian authors and world cinema is so great.

Given the great importance of theatrical art in educational work, a proposal was made to act as a unifying center and invite to St. Petersburg the winners of large festivals of children's Russian theaters, which are held, in particular, in Paris, Washington and Ireland. To work out the initiative, it was decided to invite the profile Committee for Culture of the Administration of St. Petersburg as a co-organizer.

It was also proposed to use the capabilities of the St. Petersburg Information Business Centers abroad, which are currently open in Alexandroupolis (Greece), Milan (Italy), Hamburg (Germany) and Beijing (China).

Following the meeting, the participants signed a Protocol and an Action Plan to support St. Petersburg of the Russian school abroad for 2019-2022, which will be submitted for consideration to the Acting Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov as part of the execution of his order.
