    Indonesia is interested in St. Petersburg's experience in water treatment and sanitation and flood protection

    On July 29 - 30, 2019, on the initiative of the Indonesian side, a delegation led by Special Envoy of the President of Indonesia on Climate Change, Rahmat Vitoelar, visited St. Petersburg.

    The visit was organized in order to get acquainted with the objects of urban infrastructure designed for drainage and flood protection, as well as explore the possibilities of cooperation on environmental issues, sustainable development and adaptation to climate change.

    In St. Petersburg, the Indonesian delegation met with the Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg Evgeny Grigoriev and the Deputy Chairman of the Committee Vyacheslav Kalganov, as well as the Acting Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Management, Environmental Protection and Environmental Safety Alexander Grigoryev.

    During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation in environmental issues and improving the level of environmental education for residents of St. Petersburg and Indonesia. In particular, it was proposed to conduct joint environmental awareness-raising events with the participation of youth. Also, the experience of St. Petersburg on measures taken to adapt to climate change was presented to members of the Indonesian delegation.

    In the interest of expanding cooperation between St. Petersburg and Indonesia on spiritual and moral education of youth, Vyacheslav Kalganov handed the members of the Orthodox Catechism delegation in English, published by the Taissia Society for the Abbess of the Abbess.

    In accordance with the program of the visit, the delegation also visited the Complex of Defensive Structures of St. Petersburg, where an excursion to the ship passage was organized for the guests - the navigable canal, blocked in the event of a flood threat by two floating segment gates (batoports), each 125 m long and 21.5 high m

    In addition, the delegation visited the Vodokanal St. Petersburg Information and Education Center, where Indonesian partners were introduced to the activities of the Children's Environmental Center and the Universe of Water museum complex.
