The Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg organized a meeting of the Finnish delegation of heads of regions of South-Eastern Finland headed by the mayor of South Karelia Matti Viialainen with representatives of the executive bodies of state power of St. Petersburg and Passenger Port of St. Petersburg Sea Facade JSC. The main topic of the conversation is a discussion of promising project ideas proposed for implementation as part of the Russia-South-Eastern Finland cross-border cooperation program in the years 2021-2027.

Representatives of the Finnish delegation focused on the possibilities of developing cooperation in the field of tourism and transport links between St. Petersburg and southeast Finland. Matti Viialainen recalled that 100 years ago, 13 trains were departing from St. Petersburg to Imatra. Cruise and yacht tourism is gaining more and more popularity today, for the development of which the Finnish side offered to conduct a special seminar with experts in the fall of this year.

On the whole, the Finnish side positively noted the active work of St. Petersburg in participating in the Russia-South-Eastern Finland cross-border cooperation program for the period 2014-2020.

“We have a lot of participants - research and educational institutions of the city - universities, among them there is a lack of civil initiatives and participation of municipalities,” said representatives of the Finnish delegation.

More information about the program and ongoing projects is available on the official website https://www.sefrcbc.fi/ru/.

The program is implemented at the expense of the budget of the Russian Federation, Finland and the European Union.
