April 25, 2019, in the framework of the meeting of the Executive Council of the Union of Baltic Cities international organization in St. Petersburg, the guests of our city visited SUE "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg", where they got acquainted with advanced technologies for water purification and the activities of the Children's Environmental Center.
During the visit, the director of the Information and Education Center, V.D. Kozlov, told the guests of the company about the educational activities of the St. Petersburg company.
Today, production facilities of the State Unitary Enterprise "Vodokanal of St. Petersburg" are equipped with the most modern water treatment equipment. Since 2008, St. Petersburg has completely abandoned the use of liquid chlorine for water disinfection. Sodium hypochlorite is used instead of chlorine - an effective and safe reagent. It is made from ordinary table salt, supplied from the Orenburg region, and is produced at two Vodokanal plants. In 2008, St. Petersburg became the first metropolis in the world, where all drinking water is treated with ultraviolet light.
