The event is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first March movement for the independence of Korea and the founding of the provisional government of the Republic of Korea

The organizer is the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in St. Petersburg together with the "Korean Fund" with the information support of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg.

As noted by the Chairman of the Committee on external relations of St. Petersburg Evgeny Grigoriev, "the Anniversary reminds of an important stage in the history of the Republic of Korea and symbolizes the high level of national consciousness and the desire of the Korean people for independence. Each joint event with the Republic of Korea is of great interest to St. Petersburg residents and guests of our city, who are happy to get acquainted with the rich original culture and history of the "Country of morning freshness" through the presentation of national cuisine, cinema, music, dance, games and clothing".

The concert troupe of the Korean youth cultural and educational center Nan presented a variety of performances including Korean traditional dances, Puche Sangho, Kanballah, Ipchum, Puchechum, performed national melodies on traditional Korean instruments Kayagum and Madimbuk and folk songs.

At the end of the concert was performed folk song "ariran" - one of the most popular folk songs in Korea. As you know, in December 2012, UNESCO included the song in the List of intangible cultural heritage of mankind, after which the Administration of cultural heritage of Korea announced a five-year plan for the preservation and promotion of the song.

As noted in the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in St. Petersburg, the performance of the song will revise the historical significance of the first March movement for the independence of Korea and the founding of the Provisional government of the Republic of Korea, as well as promote the recognition of the unity of the Korean people.

As guests of honor, the event was attended by the descendants of the patriot-fighter for the independence of Korea Lee In SEB – the head of the military campaign in the province of Pyongyang-namdo of Korea.

In addition, along with the "Evening of traditional Korean culture", the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in St. Petersburg organizes other events in honor of the 100th anniversary of the first March movement for the independence of Korea and the founding of the Provisional government of the Republic of Korea: in may, a screening of Korean films will be held, in June – a concert of classical music, and in the second half of the year – an event dedicated to Korean traditional art.
