    St. Petersburg strengthens cooperation with Indonesia

    On March 30, 2019, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Kalganov met with the mayor of the second largest city in Indonesia, Surabaya, Mrs. Three Rismakharini. The meeting was held within the framework of the X St. Petersburg international educational forum held in St. Petersburg, in which the delegation of the Republic of Indonesia took part.

    The city of Surabaya is the administrative center of the province of East Java, a major economic, cultural and educational metropolis, has a rich history in the context of Russian-Indonesian cooperation.

    During the meeting, the parties discussed the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the field of education and health. Taking into account the fact that the agreement on cooperation between St. Petersburg and the province of East Java is currently being prepared for signing, the mayor of Surabaya was invited to consider the possibility of concluding a similar agreement with one of the districts of St. Petersburg.

    It was also agreed, using the documents stored in the archives of the city of Surabaya, to continue joint work on the establishment of burial sites of Soviet soldiers who participated in the struggle for independence of Indonesia, who died in the performance of their military duty and buried in Indonesia.
