    On December 24, 2018, a meeting of the Government Commission for compatriots abroad was held in Moscow under the chairmanship of Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

    Alexander Ganin, head of the Department for relations with compatriots abroad of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg, represented St. Petersburg at the meeting.

    Members of the Commission discussed the results of the VI world Congress of compatriots living abroad held in Moscow on October 31 – November 1, 2018. The Congress became the Central event of the year in the life of the Russian-speaking Diaspora. It was attended by over 400 delegates from 98 countries. The meeting was addressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who set the main tasks for the Federal and regional authorities in further cooperation with associations of compatriots, and also announced the adoption of the Concept of the state migration policy of the Russian Federation for 2019-2025.

    Within the framework of the Congress, the presentation of the next literary collection of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg entitled "St. Petersburg in my fate and the fate of my people", published in the framework of the implementation of the Government of St. Petersburg state policy of the Russian Federation against compatriots living abroad, was organized.

    During the meeting, it was approved the reimbursement of transport costs to some participants of 6 traditional events of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg in 2019, both through the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia and Rossotrudnichestvo:
    The foreign Ministry:
    - reception of delegations of veterans of the great Patriotic war and residents of the besieged Leningrad, living abroad, arriving to participate in city events to celebrate the 74th anniversary of Victory in the great Patriotic war-
    XII St. Petersburg Forum of youth organizations of Russian compatriots and foreign Russian - language media "Russian abroad".
    Through Rossotrudnichestvo:
    - reception of delegations to the defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad living abroad coming to participate in the city events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade,
    - refresher courses for teachers of Russian language and literature from among the compatriots living abroad, and
    educational program on the history and culture of Russia and St.-Petersburg for children of compatriots living abroad,
    XVI Educational program for compatriots living abroad on the history of Russia "History of the Russian State" (Cultural historical University).

    At the meeting of the Commission, the results of the activities of the Interdepartmental Council for youth Affairs under the Commission for 2018 were considered. Work with young compatriots remains one of the priorities of the Commission. This year, with its assistance, about 30 different youth events were held, including " Eurasia "(Orenburg)," Baltic Artek "(Kaliningrad), IV world youth forum" Russia and the world " (Sofia, Bulgaria, 6-8 October).

    There was a discussion of the experience of the Republic of Crimea to work with compatriots abroad. It was noted that the Crimean authorities paid great attention to the implementation of projects aimed at building ties with compatriots from among the Crimean Tatars, Karaites, Crimeans living abroad. Among the events, the international festival "Great Russian word" stands out, within the framework of which the international Livadia forum, which has already become a tradition, is held.

    The government Commission for compatriots abroad is a coordinating body of the Government of the Russian Federation that ensures coordinated actions of the Federal Executive authorities and Executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation on this issue. The tasks of the Commission include summary the experience of the Executive authorities in the direction of compatriots, preparation of recommendations for public authorities on improving public policy towards compatriots, development of proposals to improve the regulatory framework.
    Since 2005, St. Petersburg has been a permanent member represented in the Commission, and representatives of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg participate in its meetings on a regular basis.
    The work of the Commission ensures coordinated actions of the concerned Executive authorities in the implementation of the state policy of Russia in relation to compatriots living abroad.
