During the conversation, the parties discussed the state and prospects of cooperation between St. Petersburg and Paraguay.
The intensification of relations between St. Petersburg and Latin America as a whole, as well as the positive dynamics of trade turnover between St. Petersburg and Paraguay were noted. Thus, for 9 months of this year, it has increased by 77% compared to the same period in 2017 and amounted to 170,3 million US dollars.
Among the most promising areas of cooperation was the possible participation of St. Petersburg enterprises in the project of arrangement of the Paraná – Paraguay river route (production and repair of shipbuilding products, modernization of port facilities on the river route, navigation and hydrographic support with the supply of coastal communication and traffic management systems).
Among the other areas for expanding cooperation was noted power engineering, medical and pharmaceutical industry, automotive industry, shipbuilding, information technology and radioelectronics.
Special attention is to be paid to the topic of bilateral cultural exchanges (mutual exhibitions, tours, joint projects), as well as inter-university cooperation, including support for Paraguayan students in the study of the Russian language for further training in St. Petersburg and the organization of training of teachers of the Russian language in schools in Paraguay.
Ms. Gaon Santacruz confirmed the readiness for cooperation, further noting the interest of companies of Paraguay to expand cooperation in the sphere of port infrastructure, agricultural machinery, agricultural supplies.
S. N. Movchan proposed to intensify cooperation to consider the opening of the information business center of St. Petersburg in Paraguay, which is a platform for the promotion of St. Petersburg as an industrial, innovative, business, scientific - educational, cultural and tourist center.
During the meeting, were reached agreements on assistance from the Paraguayan-Russian Сhamber of Commerce, industry and culture in establishing direct contacts between enterprises and organizations of St. Petersburg and partners interested in cooperation in Paraguay.
