    On 10 - 11 November, there was a visit of the Republic of Chile's Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mr. Juan Eduardo Eguiguren, to St. Petersburg in connection with completion of his diplomatic mission in Russia

    The sides noted the success of several joint projects, including a visit of training ship of the Chilean Navy "Esmeralda" to St. Petersburg and the projects for cooperation between the astronomers of St. Petersburg and Chile (Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory and El Roble Astronomical Station).

    During the visit, Mr. J.E. Eguiguren took part in the round table "Scientific and Educational Cooperation between Russia and Chile", organized in the framework of IV International Festival of the Americas by St. Petersburg State University of Economics, also he visited Smolny where he met with the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, I.O. Lonsky.

     

    On 10 November, our city was visited by the representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Chile, Mr. Nicolas Cataldo and Mr. Patricio Espinoza, who also participated in a round table on cooperation between Russia and Chile in the sphere of science and education.

    Mr. N. Cataldo made a presentation on education reform in Chile. He spoke about the modern school system and higher education in Chile as well reforms, which are currently being implemented by the Government led by the President of the Republic of Chile, Mrs. Michelle Bachelet.

    The event was also attended by a representative of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, the staff and students of the universities of the city.

     

    On 11 November, the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile in the Russian Federation, Mr. J.E. Eguiguren, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Chile in St. Petersburg, I.A. Maksimtsev, visited Smolny, where he met with the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, I.O. Lonsky.

    On behalf of the Government of St. Petersburg, I.O. Lonsky, thanked Mr. J.E. Eguiguren for the great contribution to the development and strengthening of friendly relations between our countries, as well as his for special attention to the development of cooperation with St. Petersburg. The Deputy Chairman of the Committee, I.O. Lonsky, also thanked the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Chile in St. Petersburg, I.A. Maksimtsev, and expressed confidence that the new leadership of the Embassy of Chile in Moscow would appreciate the work he had done. In addition, the sides noted the success of several joint projects, including a visit of training ship of the Chilean Navy "Esmeralda" to St. Petersburg and the projects for cooperation between the astronomers of St. Petersburg and Chile (Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory and El Roble Astronomical Station).

    In his response, the Ambassador reiterated the importance of cooperation at the regional level. As Mr. J.E. Eguiguren noted, St. Petersburg contributes greatly to the strengthening of the ties between the Russian and Chilean nations. The Ambassador expressed his confidence that these relations will strengthen and grow in the future.
