    On June 8 in Smolny there was a meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg S.L. Markov with the Deputy Head of the region Peloponnese for Development and Infrastructure Mrs. Konstantina Nikolaku.

    The meeting was organized within the visit of the delegation of the Peloponnese region (Hellenic Republic) to St. Petersburg, dedicated to the "intermutual" Year of Russia and Greece.

    The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg R.N. Sachunova and the Consul General of Greece in St. Petersburg Panos Beglitis.

    The parties discussed the perspective directions of cooperation between St. Petersburg and the region Peloponnese, including tourism (event tourism and the pilgrimage), the development of economic relations, strengthening of business contacts, cooperation of universities and cultural exchanges.

    The Greek side has confirmed a strong interest in the development of cooperation between the Peloponnese and St. Petersburg. In this regard, it was proposed to sign a framework protocol on cooperation, which would also include all the municipalities of the region. (For reference: there was an agreement on cooperation between Kronstadt district of St. Petersburg and the Municipality of Nafplio signed in 2003, and one between Kurortny District of St. Petersburg and the municipality Gastouni located on the territory of the Peloponnese signed in 2008).

    The meeting resulted in agreement on the participation of the heads of the Peloponnese and the tourist organizations of the region in international tourist exhibition INWETEX-CIS TRAVEL MARKET in St. Petersburg in October 2016; as well as the signing of a protocol on cooperation in tourism sphere between the Peloponnese and St. Petersburg, and the organization of the presentation of St. Petersburg in the Peloponnese.

    The same day, the State Museum St Isaac’s Cathedral hosted an opening ceremony of the exhibition of the Peloponnesian artist Nikos Floros "Imperial Russia" in the framework of St. Petersburg part of the "intermutual" Year of Russia and Greece.

    Renaissance St. Petersburg Baltic Hotel hosted a presentation of the Peloponnese region from the perspective of history, culture, religion, economy and investment potential.
