    On May 12-13 the School of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University is holding XXIV annual Russian-American Seminar

    The topic of the Seminar is “70 years after the WWII: Lessons of the Past and the Future of the Russian-American Relations”.

    The topic of the Seminar is “70 years after the WWII: Lessons of the Past and the Future of the Russian-American Relations”.

    Traditionally the Russian-American seminar is attended by scientists from Russia, the USA and other countries, Russian and American diplomats, prominent public officials and politicians from Russia and the USA as well as Russian and foreign student and post-graduate students.

    The plenary meeting featured the following discussions: “Victory in the Great War: Missed Opportunities”, “Lessons of the Past and the Future of the Russian-American Relations”.

    Other round tables:

    - “Russian-American relations: Conflict and the Search for Compromise”;
    - “Regional Aspects of Russian-U.S. Rivalry”;
    - “Russia and the United States in the Contemporary World Order”;
    - “Russian-American Relations as Seen by Young Researchers (The School of Young Americanists)”.

    Background information:

    In the course of its 20-year-long history the Seminar has been attended by the 1st President of the USSR M.S. Gorbachev; Russian ambassadors in the USA including V.P. Lukin and Yu.M. Vorontsov; State Duma deputies V.A. Nikonov, G.V. Starovoytova, I.M. Khakamada, etc; the 1st mayor of St. Petersburg A.A. Sobchak; ambassadors of the USA in Russia and Consuls General of the USA in St. Petersburg; presidents of U.S. universities and research institutes; prominent writers and historians from Russia and the USA; editors-in-chief of newspapers and magazines.
