    Days of Turku in St.Petersburg: 60th anniversary of cooperation and the dialogue at the Innovations Forum

    As a part of the Days of Turku in St.Petersburg, the St.Petersburg International Innovation Forum housed 3 seminars organized on the initiative of the Mayor of Turku and with the support of the St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations. 

    As a part of the “Turku days” in St.Petersburg, the St.Petersburg International Innovation Forum housed 3 seminars organized on the initiative of the Mayor of Turku and with the support of the St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.

    These seminars were meant for businessmen, members of scientific, educational and non-governmental organizations, public sector employees, and over 130 participants from Russia and Finland took part in these events.  On October, 2nd there was a seminar dedicated to the new project with the working title “The Northern growth corridor: Stockholm – Turku – Helsinki – St.Petersburg”, which is designed to gather the resources of these cities, their municipalities, enterprises and organizations in order to improve the competitive performance of the area and to promote its interests in a concerted effort on national and international levels.  The seminar included reports and commentaries presented by I.A.Maksimtsev, the Rector of the St.Petersburg State University of Economics, A.Randell, the Mayor of Turku, I.O.Lonsky, the Vice- President of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, etc. The participants discussed the possible priorities in the cooperation regarding logistics, education, science, business support and environmentally-friendly technologies.

    Another important issue was the necessity of mobilization of joint long-term financing for the projects considered as the priority ones within the framework of “The Northern grown corridor”.

    On October, 3rd the “Turku Technopark” and the St.Petersburg State University held the seminar titled “Russia-Finland: international cooperation in the commercialization of innovative scientific research results in biopharmacy and diagnostic testing”. Reports were presented by participants from the St.Petersburg State University, the St.Petersburg State Medical University named after I.P. Pavlov, the Turku University, the “Turku Technopark” and such companies as “Haabio” and “CRST”.

    On October, 4th there was a panel discussion titled “Small and medium enterprises and start-ups as the innovation drivers”, which included presentations and speeches of the representatives of Finnish and Russian companies, public and non-governmental organizations, which support the small and medium enterprises. The participants put forward the initiative of arranging a joint event for the representatives of Finnish and Russian small and medium enterprises interested in the search of foreign partners and the development of the export capacity of their companies in the spring of 2014 in St.Petersburg.

    The “Turku days” in St.Petersburg also included a Russian-Finnish forum “Bridge” for the young leaders. The attendees met with the representatives of companies specialized in the innovative production, IT, ICT, construction, industrial manufacturing, retail sales, etc., and discussed the perspectives of youth innovative business in the partner cities.
