    Meeting of the St. Petersburg Governor G.S. Poltavchenko with the UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers Gabriella Knaul during her official visit to the Russian Federation

    On 19th April 2013 the St. Petersburg Governor G.S. Poltavchenko met in Smolny Palace with the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers Gabriella Knaul during her official visit to the Russian Federation.

    On 19th April 2013 the St. Petersburg Governor G.S. Poltavchenko met in Smolny Palace with the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers Gabriella Knaul during her official visit to the Russian Federation.

    This meeting also attended the St. Petersburg Government members: Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations A.V. Prokhorenko and Chairman of the Committee on Law, Order and Security L.P. Bogdanov.

    The purpose of the UNHRC Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers visit is the study of situations affecting various aspects of her mandate. Upon request of the UN Special Rapporteur were invited heads of justice and law enforcement in St. Petersburg.

    This meeting attended: the Chief of the General Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg V.V. Lukyanov, Chairman of the St. Petersburg City Court V.N. Yepifanova, Head of the St. Petersburg Judicial Department V.N. Silyukov, Acting Chief of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region N.M. Rogovoy, Vice-President of the St. Petersburg Law Chamber R.Z. Chinokaev, Deputy Chairman of the Judicial Council, Justice of Peace No. 173 for Primorsky District O.V. Tumanova.

    The St. Petersburg Governor welcomed G. Knaul and highlighted the issues related to the Special Rapporteur visit concerning the competence of the municipal government. Representatives of the St. Petersburg juridical authorities informed G. Knaul about the city judicial system and measures relating to access to justice.
