    Saint Petersburg is hosting a session of the joint working group of the Government of Saint Petersburg and the Austrian Ministry of Ecology

    The II session of the joint working group for technologies transfer within the frames of the Protocol between the Government of Saint Petersburg and the Austrian Ministry of Ecology signed in June 2011 was opened in Smolny on December 10, 2012.

    A welcoming address to the participants of the session was given by A.V. Prokhorenko, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint Petersburg, who noted that the main capital of the city was its citizens while sustainable development of Saint Petersburg, high quality of life and health of the population could be ensured only by maintaining an appropriate state of the environment. K. Holzer, General Director of the Department of Material Flows Management and Protection of Urban Environment of the Austrian Ministry of Ecology, expressed the readiness of Austrian specialists in the field of natural resource management to share the accumulated experience on issues of city area reclamation, waste management, waste utilization and use as a power resource.

     Within the frames of the three-days’ program of the session of the working group the Austrian delegation has found out the experience of work of The Nevskaya Zastava multitask icebreaker in ensuring ecological safety in the Neva water area,  visited the plant of mechanized municipal waste utilization in Yanino settlement, familiarized themselves with construction facilities on the territory of Saint Petersburg where energy efficiency technologies are used,  visited the facilities of Vodokanal of Saint Petersburg SUE.
