In December 2012 we mark the 20th anniversary of the partnership between Saint Petersburg and Bordeaux.

The delegation of Bordeaux will take part in the International Youth Forum “Youth Wave” (“Social Integration of Youth” debates, at 4 p.m. on 8 December, LenExpo, 7 pavilion), will visit Vodokanal SUE and the Children’s Ecological Center, have working meetings with specialists in urban development, development of territories and heritage preservation.

The program of the visit also includes establishment of connections between higher educational institutions of the two cities within the frames of European educational programs, learning about the experience of Petersburg in the field of inter-ethnic relations and with the work of the State Library for the Blind, visit to the museum of electric transport and participation in evaluation of the results of the sommelier contest.

Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg I.M. Metelsky said: “Petersburg is interested in Bordeaux experience of implementation of “Bortdeaux-2020” plan, including the experience of creation of a high-quality living environment using “green construction” mechanisms, the experience of development of connections between new districts and the city center, creation of a “sustainable metropolis” within the frames of balanced development of Bordeaux and surrounding territories. A special interest of Petersburg specialists was aroused by Bordeaux Eco-house. Our committees are quire interested in a detailed dialogue with Eco-house representatives and consider the possibilities of creating a similar exhibition in Petersburg on the basis of the city’s Construction Technopark. We can say with satisfaction that the 20 years of cooperation between our cities provide practical results. And we have evolved enough new plans for good serious things in future. I think that our cities will be also able to work actively within the frames of the Russian-French Commission for cooperation between territorial entities established in January 2012.”

The agreement on cooperation between Saint Petersburg and Bordeaux was signed in Saint Petersburg in December 1992. It was followed up by the Protocol of Cooperation signed in October 1997. The Protocol was signed during the visit of Bordeaux delegation headed by Mayor Alain Juppe to Saint Petersburg.

The Days of Saint Petersburg in Bordeaux held in the period of 12-16 September 2012 were dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the partnerships. For more detail: http://www.kvs.spb.ru/novosti3/2392.
