    They discussed the progress of cooperation between St. Petersburg and Finland and promising areas of expansion of these bilateral relations.

    The parties agreed to hold regular consultations on topical cooperation issues.

    For reference: The foreign trade of St. Petersburg with Finland is dynamically developing. Finland is now the 4th largest trade partner of St. Petersburg. In 2011, the total trade with Finland amounted to $2,765 million (with an increase of 61% compared with 2010). In the first half of 2012, the amount of foreign trade doubled as compared with the same period in 2011 and amounted to $1.8 billion, of which $1 billion accounts for exports (as compared to the same period of 2011, the export rate has increased 8-fold) and $744 million accounts for imports (with an increase of 1%).

    In 2011, Finland contributed $233.1 million to the economy of St. Petersburg in the form of investments (with $126.6 million as direct investments).

    Finland has the highest number of companies represented in St. Petersburg, including such largest Finnish companies successfully operating in the city as Neste St. Petersburg, Nokia, Fortum, Stockmann, Valio, Fazer, Lemminkainen, Sonera, Skanska, YIT, and SOC Group.

    Finland is the most popular holiday destination for the citizens of St. Petersburg. In 2011, it was visited by 3.3 million residents of the Northern Capital. St. Petersburg also ranks as a tourist destination: in 2011, our city was visited by 340.4 thousand Finns.

    The Consul General of Finland in St. Petersburg, Ms. Pirjo TULOKAS, was born June 1, 1964. In 1991, she graduated from the Department of Slavic Studies of the University of Tampere. Since 1996 she had been working in the Foreign Ministry of Finland. In 2009-2012, she had been the Deputy Consul General of Finland in St. Petersburg. On September 1, 2012, Ms. Pirjo Tulokas was appointed the Consul General of Finland in St. Petersburg.
