The Assembly of European Regions uniting over 260 regions from 33 countries is the largest independent regions union in Europe. AER cooperates with Council of Europe and European Union organizations such as Congress of local and regional authorities of Europe and Committee of regions actively.
The Assembly supports regions in establishing communication between regions, contacting different European organizations and expert bodies to improve regional development and exchange experience in various fields. In course of the meeting its participants exchanged their opinions on opportunities for cooperation between Saint Petersburg and the Assembly.
