    The delegation from the city of Gdansk, Poland, led by the Mayor Pavel Adamovich visited Saint Petersburg

    The Governor of Saint Petersburg, Georgiy Poltavchenko met the Mayor of Gdansk (Republic of Poland), Pavel Adamovich in Smolny on 4 October 2012.

    T The main issue of the meeting was the development of cooperation between the two cities. Georgiy Poltavchenko mentioned that, in order to strengthen the partner ties between Saint Petersburg and Gdansk that have been set back in 1961, both the parties have to continue with cultural dialog, exchange of student delegations, and to maintain the interest of youth in our common history. The Governor has also stressed that, apart from traditional directions of cooperation such as shipbuilding, commerce, transportation, cargo handling, Saint Petersburg can currently offer new areas of partnership – for example, pharmaceutical and automotive clusters, development of partnership in the areas of small and medium scale businesses. «We have got things to discuss, there is an open mutual interest,» Georgiy Poltavchenko was quoted as saying. The Governor of Saint Petersburg and the Mayor of Gdansk have also discussed the possibilities in sharing the experience in preparation to and holding the large-scale sports events. Gdansk was amongst the Polish cities hosting the Euro 2012 football championship, and the World Championship games are scheduled to be held in Saint Petersburg in 2018. Georgiy Poltavchenko noted that Saint Petersburg could use the Gdansk experience in setting up the volunteer movement, transport logistics, provision of the Championship guests safety.

    The Mayor of Gdansk Pavel Adamovich took part in the «Social welfare of youth in the process of social changes in Saint Petersburg and Gdansk» conference held at the sociology department of Saint Petersburg State University, and also held a task meeting with the special representative for international relations of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg, Т.Ya.Zakharenkova.

    The Physical Culture and Sports Committee held a seminar on carrying the major sports events which the delegation from Gdansk attended. Pavel Adamovich was interviewed by the “Echo of Moscow” radio station and the “Expert North-West” magazine  in follow-up of the visit.
