On May 14 and 15, 2012, the international seminar "Experience of Preserving the Cultural Heritage of Historical Cities: St.Petersburg, Krakow, Washington", under the program of "Creative Internship at St.Petersburg".
The program was organized with the assistance of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.
The event was attended by foreign guests: M.Omilianowska, Deputy Minister for Culture and National Heritage of Poland, D.Malony, Director of the State Commission for Protection of Monuments of the District of Columbia (USA), J.Purchla, Director of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow (Poland), E.Ballard, Senior Expert on Monuments Preservation at the Smithsonian Institution (USA), H.Hasan, Partner of the architectural office "Beyer, Blinder, Belle" (USA), and other professionals.
At the workshop, the issues were discussed concerning the construction development in the historical city centers, adaptation of the cultural heritage objects for the modern usage, the merits and demerits in the conservation of cultural heritage, and the role of the public and the mass media in preserving cultural heritage.
