    Farida Shaheed, UN Expert on Human Rights, Visited St.Petersburg

    On April 18, 2012, V.N.Kichedzhi, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, met at Smolny with the Farida Shaheed, special rapporteur of the UN Council on Human Rights in the area of cultural rights, within the confines of her visit toRussian Federation. The meeting was assisted by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.

    On April 18, 2012, V.N.Kichedzhi, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, met at Smolny with the Farida Shaheed, special rapporteur of the UN Council on Human Rights in the area of cultural rights, within the confines of her visit toRussian Federation. The meeting was assisted by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations.

    The purpose of the UN Special Rapporteur concerning the meeting with the leadership of St.Petersburg is making acquaintance with the practical measures taken at the local level, to encourage, promote, and protect cultural rights, given the multi-religious and multi-ethnic population of St.Petersburg.

    V.N.Kichedzhi, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, and Farida Shaheed exchanged their opinions on the policy of St.Petersburg in the area of culture – on accessibility of culture for various population groups, organization of tourism in relation to the objects of culture, implementation of program “Tolerance” on the harmonization of inter-ethnic and intercultural relations in St.Petersburgi.

    V.N.Balskiy, Deputy Head of the Department for Coordination of National Programs on Inter-Ethnic Relations and Relations with Compatriots abroad, Head of the Department for Relations with Compatriots Abroad at St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, informed F.Shaheed about the main results of the program

    BA Illarionov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Culture, decribed the main projects implemented by the cultural institutions of St.Petersburg on representing the cultures of various nationalities of multinational Russia and St.Petersburg.

    During the meeting, V.N.Kichedzhi, Vice Governor of St.Petersburg, answered the questions of Farida Shaheed on the Law of St.Petersburg “On Amendments to the Law of St.Petersburg ‘On Administrative Offences in St.Petersburg’”.
