    The Days of St.Petersburg in Manchester

    On April 1 and 2, 2012, the Days of St.Petersburg were run in Manchester to mark the 50th anniversary of signing a cooperation agreement between the two cities.

    On April 1 and 2, 2012, the Days of St.Petersburg were run in Manchester to mark the 50th anniversary of signing a cooperation agreement between the two cities.

    Manchester was visited by St.Petersburg delegation, headed by A.B.Chichkanov, Chairman of the Committee on Investments and Strategic Projects. The delegation included the representatives of the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade, Committee for Culture, Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg, St.Petersburg State University of Telecommunications named after M.A.Bonch-Bruevich, state educational institution “Petrovskiy College”, St.Petersburg Association for International Cooperation, and other organizations and institutions of St.Petersburg.

    Within the confines of the Days, the round-table discussions were organized with the support of Manchester City Council, to exchange experiences in the area of information technology and e-government, renovation and use of historical and cultural heritage, regeneration of industrial zones.

    The delegation got acquainted with local Manchester objects in the area of regeneration: the project “MediaCityUK”, where, in particular, the headquarters of the Air Force locates; project “Sharp”, aimed at developing the sector of digital and creative industries; the project “NOMA” for the renovation of the northern part of historical center of Manchester.

    A key event in the cultural program of the Days was a concert in the “Bridgewater Hall” by the Honored Russian Academic Symphony Orchestra of St.Petersburg Philharmonia named after D.D.Shostakovich, under the baton of Yuri Temirkanov, Art Director and Principal Conductor.

    At the City Council of Manchester, an exhibition was held to show the works by students of Design Department at the Faculty of Arts at St.Petersburg State University, and the performance of the quartet “Ma.Gr.Ig.Al”. With the support of the Committee for Culture, the performance of the quartet “Ma.Gr.Ig.Al.” and the Peterburg-concert soloists was also organized in the Royal Northern College of Music.

    In “Zion Centre”, the exhibition on the history of contacts between the two cities was opened, based on the archives of St.Petersburg Association for International Cooperation and the Society of Manchester–St.Petersburg Friendship.
