    A Delegation of Brazil Visited St.Petersburg

    On March 27, I.O.Lonskiy, Deputy Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, met in Smolny with Neusimar Ferreira Fraga, Prefect of the city of Vila Velha, State of Espirito Santo (Brazil).

    On March 27, I.O.Lonskiy, Deputy Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, met in Smolny with Neusimar Ferreira Fraga, Prefect of the city of Vila Velha, State of Espirito Santo (Brazil).

    The participants discussed the opportunities for cooperation between the two cities in economy, science, culture, and education. The head of the Brazilian delegation also noted the interest of the city of Vila Velha to communicate with St.Petersburg through a partnership of the cities of BRICS group.

    At the end of the meeting, a protocol was signed resulting from the negotiations, which marked an intention of both sides to develop the bilateral dialogue and facilitate the implementation of promising joint projects.

    Foreign trade turnover of St.Petersburg and Brazil totaled $705.8 million in 2011, down by 19% as compared to 2010. Reducing turnover is associated with a decrease in imports, which prevail in the trade, amounting to $695.4 million.

    Of the 36 countries that import the meat to the market of St.Petersburg, the first place belongs to Brazil. The supply of meat products has allowed Brazil to become the 12th largest importer of St.Petersburg.
