    The Events to Mark the Day of Russian Navy Held in St.Petersburg

    On July 31, 2011, A.V. Prokhorenko, Member of St.Petersburg Government, Chairman of the Committee for External Relationa, took part in the ceremonies devoted to celebrating the Day of Russian Navy in Kronstadt.

    The celebration of Navy Day included the consecration of new bells of Kronstadt Naval Cathedral of St Nicholas the Sanctifier and the solemn opening of the renovated facade of the cathedral.

    The bells were consecrated by Vladimir, Metropolitan of St.Petersburg and Ladoga. New bells were cast for the cathedral at a bell-foundry in Voronezh. The weight of a large evangel bell is 17,000 kg. It is the main of the fourteen bells that make up the new bell tower of the cathedral.

    On the same day, a regular session of the Public Board of Trustees of the Naval Cathedral was held in Kronstadt, with the participation of S. Medvedeva, the spouse of President of Russia; V.I. Matvienko, St.Petersburg Governor; A.D. Beglov, Deputy Head of Presidential Administration, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and Metropolitan Vladimir. The participants of the session heard the reports on the progress of revival of the cathedral, the centenary of which would be celebrated in 2013. Currently, the restoration of the facade is completed, as well as gilding the domes and decoration of outer walls of the edifice. The work is under way in the inner rooms of the cathedral and landscaping. In mid-March of 2012, the low rank consecration of the church should be held.
