    Secretary General of NATO Visited St.Petersburg

    On July 5, 2011, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, NATO Secretary General, visited St.Petersburg during his official visit to Russia.

    On July 5, 2011, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, NATO Secretary General, visited St.Petersburg during his official visit to Russia.

    Before that, on July 4, a session of Russia-NATO Council was held in Sochi, which event was attended by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

    During the visit to St.Petersburg, NATO Secretary General gave a lecture on NATO striving to establish strong partnerships with Russia at the Naval Academy named after N.Kuznetsov, and met with the representatives of St.Petersburg media under a special press conference.

    He also shared a business lunch with the M.E. Oseevskiy, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, Head of the Administration of St.Petersburg Governor.

    As part of activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of signing the Founding Act on NATO-Russia relations and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of Russia-NATO Council, St.Petersburg hosted the international political science conference on “Modern Risks and threats to security. The role of the NATO-Russia Council” on June 25, 2007. The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by J. de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary General.

    On July 21 through 23, 2010, St.Petersburg hosted the session of the Directorial Board of the consortium on implementation of Russia-NATO Council project “Standex” for standoff detection of explosives.
