    The presentation of the St.Petersburg Program for the Year Russia-Italy

    On April 26, 2011, the St.Petersburg Program of the Year of Russian culture and Russian language in Italy and the Italian culture and Italian language in Russia was presented.

    On April 26, 2011, the St.Petersburg Program of the Year of Russian culture and Russian language in Italy and the Italian culture and Italian language in Russia was presented.

    The joint plans were described by: A.V. Prokhorenko – Member of the Government, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations; A.V. Platunov – Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Culture of St.Petersburg; F. Cimellaro – Acting Consul General of Italy in St.Petersburg; F. Mastrangelo – Italian conductor and pianist; A. Mandruzzato – glass-making master from Murano (Italy).

    Alexander Prokhorenko said that “the contribution of city to the program of the Year is significant: on the one hand, it is the participation of famous “ branded” cultural institutions of St.Petersburg in a joint program at the national level, on the other – we have prepared our own,

    St.Petersburg’s part that can be divided into two blocks: the first one comprises the joint projects of St.Petersburg and the Italian cities and regions as partners, while the second one comprises special events run by St.Petersburg’s and Italian cultural and educational institutions. The most ambitious project will be the Days of St.Petersburg in Milan in October 2011, Milan being the oldest city's partner in Italy. Among the major events are: St.Petersburg theater season, the exhibition “The Phenomenon of Russian Opera” from the collection of St.Petersburg Museum of Theatre and Musical Art, Chess Forum. In San Remo, the first festival of Russian music “Empire of Tchaikovsky” will be held, as well as the concerts of St.Petersburg Orchestra “Classics” under the baton of Alexander Kantorov. San Remo will present in St.Petersburg an exhibition of historical costumes of the imperial family and Russian aristocratsб from the collection “Dafna”. The Year Russia-Italy is unique in that a separate focus of the program is made on learning Russian and Italian languages: the groups of students will be exchanged, the teachers will get the opportunity of specialized training, the partner schools will arrange the competitions on language and culture of Russia and Italy. Such diversified and intensive program reflects the mutual interest, which has always existed between Russia and Italy.
