    A Session of the Working Group

    On March 23 and 24, 2011, a video conference was held in Smolny, as a session of the Working Group within the framework of the participation of St.Petersburg in the World Regions Forum (Lombardy, Italy). The particiants were Milan, Madrid, Quebec, Johannesburg.

    On March 23 and 24, 2011, a video conference was held in Smolny, as a session of the Working Group within the framework of the participation of St.Petersburg in the World Regions Forum (Lombardy, Italy). The particiants were Milan, Madrid, Quebec, Johannesburg.
    The sides discussed the opportunities of cooperation in the areas of science, higher education, and health care. In addition, the participants reaffirmed their readiness to bring the academic centers, research institutes, and non-governmental organizations to the Forum.
    The parties agreed to facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between the institutions of education – one of the projects would be a joint program on the exchange of young scientists for the leading universities in the regions-participants. As of the health care, the emphasis was the issue of sharing the best practices for diagnostics and treatment of cancer.
    Reference:
    The World Regions Forum was first held in Milan on November 19 through 21, 2009. The delegates of 16 regional governments signed the final declaration (“Milan Declaration”), which implies the willingness of the regions to develop the cooperation in several areas. To implement the provisions of the Milan Declaration, it was decided to establish a special working group, as well as an Internet resource with restricted access.
