    Meeting with Aivars Groza, Consul General of the Republic of Latvia in St.Petersburg

    On February 28, 2011, V.I.Matvienko, Governor of St.Petersburg, met at Smolny with Aivars Groza, Consul General of Latvia in St. Petersburg.

    During the meeting, it was noted that cooperation between St.Petersburg and Latvia is a very successful and effective, both in economic and humanitarian spheres. It is much contributed by the traditional mutual Days of St.Petersburg and cities of Latvia, allowing for better knowledge of the residents of our cities about the contemporary life of partner cities.

    The two sides exchanged their views on a program of holding the days of Riga in St.Petersburg, now scheduled for October 2011.

    At the meeting, discussed were the prospects of further cooperation, including joint activities within the framework of cross-border cooperation between the European Union and Russia “Estonia–Latvia–Russia”, as well as raising to a new level the cooperation in the area of culture in 2014, when Riga is appointed to be the European Capital of Culture.

    At the end of the conversation, the Governor expressed her hope that the activities of the Consulate General will continue to promote the development of the Petersburg–Latvian relations.
