    Sagaalgan – the Buddhist New Year

    On February 4, 2011, A.V.Prokhorenko, Chairman of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, visited the Datsan-principal Buddhist Temple Gunzechoyney (91 Primorskiy Prospect) and congratulated B.B.Badmaev, Superior of the Datsan, and all residents of our city, practicing Buddhism, on Sagaalgan holiday (in Buryat, «White Month»), that is, the Buddhist New Year by lunar calendar.

    During the meeting, the issues of restoration of this unique monument of history and architecture were also discussed, as well as other problems that this religious organization faced.


    The festivities that took place at the Buddhist Temple on 3 and 4 February this year were attended by St.Petersburg Buddhists originated from Kalmykia, Buryatia, Tuva.
