    Gdansk Hosted the Events, Aiming To Develop and Strengthen the Ties with Compatriots Living in Poland

    On November 18 through 19, 2010, within the framework of Days of St.Petersburg in Gdansk and St.Petersburg Government Program to implement the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad, St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, with the assistance of St.Petersburg educational publishing center “Zlatoust [Chrysostom]” ran a series of events to promote and support the Russian language and culture in Poland.

    On November 18 through 19, 2010, within the framework of Days of St.Petersburg in Gdansk and St.Petersburg Government Program to implement the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad, St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, with the assistance of St.Petersburg educational publishing center “Zlatoust [Chrysostom]” ran a series of events to promote and support the Russian language and culture in Poland.

    In the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Gdansk, a two-day refresher courses for teachers of Russian language were held, attended by over 60 teachers from local schools, high schools, and University of Gdansk. At RCSC, a photo exhibition about St.Petersburg was deployed, while in the hall where the courses were run, graphic works by Polish artists were shown featuring the city-scapes of St.Petersburg. All participants were presented with certificates attesting the improvement of their skills.

    On November 19, 2010, RCSC also hosted a round table “Preservation of Russian Language and Culture in Poland”, during which the representatives of the Committee for External Relations and the Committee for Culture at St.Petersburg Administration made the compatriots and the course participants familiar with the new St.Petersburg Government Program to implement the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad for 2011–2013. Not only the representatives of the Polish side expressed their appreciation of the events held, but they asked to hold them annually. In addition, agreements were reached on the expansion of university cooperation, student exchanges, and participation of compatriots in St.Petersburg activities of St.Petersburg Government Program to implement the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad.

    Also, on behalf of St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations, more than 500 training manuals in Russian language, as well as books on history and culture of Russia and St.Petersburg, were handed to Russian Center for Science and Culture in Gdansk, intended for the organizations of compatriots and studying Russian language.

    A day before, on November 15, Russian Center for Science and Culture in Warsaw hosted a seminar for secondary school teachers, devoted to the methods of teaching the Russian language. On November 16 and 17, at the University of Warsaw, the students from different courses, interested in Russian language, heard the lectures about the peculiarities of the usage of audiovisual aids in the Russian language lessons, and mastered the methods of working with them. Activities were also organized by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relation and the center “Chrysostom”, with in the framework of the St.Petersburg Government Program to implement the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad.
