    Visit of St.Petersburg Delegation in a Partner City of Manchester

    On October 18 through 21, 2010, within the framework of the cooperation agreement, a delegation of St.Petersburg headed by A.A. Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy, and Trade,. visited the partner city of Manchester.

    On October 18 through 21, 2010, within the framework of the cooperation agreement, a delegation of St.Petersburg headed by A.A. Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy, and Trade,. visited the partner city of Manchester.

    The St.Petersburg delegation included the representatives of the Finance Committee, Committee for Information and Communication, Committee for External Relations, the St.Petersburg branch of the State University – «Graduate School of Management», St.Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, «Petersburg-Concert», St.Petersburg Association for International Cooperation.

    The program of activities of St.Petersburg in Manchester was supported by the City Council of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Society of Friendship «Manchester–St.Petersburg».

    As a part of the program, a round table was organized to promote cooperation in economy, science, and higher education, including the exchange of experience in supporting small and medium-scale businesses, the development of innovation infrastructure, commercialization of research activities.

    The delegation also met with Mark Hackett, Lord Mayor of Manchester, held talks with the representatives of the Commission for the New Economy (CNE), the Association of Manchester Region Authorities for Economic Development, Innovations, Clusters and Opportunities of Economic Cooperation, and Dave Carter, Head of the Agency for Information and Technological Development in Manchester (MDDA). Discussed was a program of celebrating the 50 anniversary of the partnership between the two cities in 2012.

    With the support of the Committee for Culture, a joint concert of St.Petersburg musicians and an orchestra of Russian folk instruments «Kalinka» (Manchester) was performed at the Royal Northern College of Music, master classes wre run for the students majoring in music in secondary schools of Manchester, the Royal Northern College of Music, and Orchestra «Kalinka».
