On August 25, 2010, St.Petersburg delegation, headed by L.A. Kostkina, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, paid a visit to Daugavpils (Latvia) .
The main result of this visit was signing the Agreement on Cooperation in the area of health care between St.Petersburg Government and Daugavpils City Council, prepared by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations within the framework of the program of St.Petersburg Government on implementing the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad. Signing of this Agreement will be a good contribution to both support the residents of besieged Leningrad, living in Daugavpils, and further cooperation between St.Petersburg and Daugavpils in general.
On August 25, 2010, St.Petersburg delegation, headed by L.A. Kostkina, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, paid a visit to Daugavpils (Latvia) .
The main result of this visit was signing the Agreement on Cooperation in the area of health care between St.Petersburg Government and Daugavpils City Council, prepared by St.Petersburg Committee for External Relations within the framework of the program of St.Petersburg Government on implementing the state policy of Russian Federation concerning the compatriots abroad. Signing of this Agreement will be a good contribution to both support the residents of besieged Leningrad, living in Daugavpils, and further cooperation between St.Petersburg and Daugavpils in general.
In accordance with the signed agreement, Daugavpils City Council will provide residents of Daugavpils – awardees of the lapel button "Inhabitant of Besieged Leningrad" and/or the medal "For the Defense of Leningrad " with the policies of voluntary health insurance, giving the right to receive quality services in health care institutions of Daugavpils.
In its turn, St.Petersburg Government will provide an opportunity for specialists with higher medical education, working in health care institutions of Daugavpils, undergo hands-on training in health care institutions of St.Petersburg under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Public Health Care. Daugavpils side has already formed the first delegation of medical doctors, who are going to be trained in St.Petersburg in September-October this year under said Agreement.
During the visit, a meeting took place with Mr J?nis L??pl?sis, Chairman of Daugavpils City Council. The participants were offered an electronic presentation of Daugavpils. A press conference was held to discuss the results of the meeting, during which the representatives of regional media raised questions about the prospects of implementation of the Agreement and the development of cooperation between the two cities in general.
L.A. Kostkina, Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg, expressed in her statement the confidence of the good prospects of cooperation between St.Petersburg and Daugavpils and pronounced the best wishes on behalf of V.I. Matvienko, St.Petersburg Governor. During the press conference, the progress was also mentioned in the development of cooperation between the Administration of Petrogradskiy District of St.Petersburg and Daugavpils.
Within the confines of the visit, a meeting was held with the society of residents of besieged Leningrad, living in Daugavpils. During the meeting, it was agreed that the visit of members of the society in St.Petersburg would take place in November 2010. A representative of society expressed their gratitude to St.Petersburg for the work related to support for veterans and residents of besieged Leningrad, living abroad.
The delegation of St.Petersburg also visited the Central Regional Hospital and Daytime Care Center for rehabilitation and social services of Daugavpils.
