    Round Table “Counteraction against the Propagation of Drug Usage and HIV Infection among Young Adults and Underaged: Russia and International Experience”

    Under the program “Complex Measures to Combat Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking in St.Petersburg in 2009-2012”, a round table “Counteraction against the Propagation of Drug Usage and HIV Infection among Young Adults and Underaged: Russian and International Experience” took place at Smolny on March 1, 2010, with the participation of representatives of relevant committees and commissions of St.Petersburg, as well as representatives from leading U.S. universities

    Under the program “Complex Measures to Combat Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking in St.Petersburg in 2009-2012”, a round table “Counteraction against the Propagation of Drug Usage and HIV Infection among Young Adults and Underaged: Russian and International Experience” took place at Smolny on March 1, 2010, with the participation of representatives of relevant committees and commissions of St.Petersburg, as well as representatives from leading U.S. universities.

    Organizers of the event: a group at the St.Petersburg Governor’s Staff to allow for the activities of Anti-Drug Commission in St.Petersburg, and the regional public organization “Stellit” dealing in social projects concerning the public welfare.

    American participants in the seminar were Robert Hymer, Professor, School of Medicine at Yale University; Paul Cleary, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Yale University; Head of Preventive Research Center for the Study of AIDS at Emory University; they offered the results of research conducted in the USA and their practical implementation to counteract the drug usage, HIV epidemy, and drug abuse among young adults and teenagers.

    During the round table, the regional public organization of social projects “Stellit” presented the major results of its work in 2009.

    The participants of the round table exchanged their opinions on further cooperation in counteracting the propagation of drug abuse and HIV among young people, and highlighted the importance of consolidating the efforts of government, business circles, and society, as well as sharing the international experience.
