    Round Table "Smart Road: Information and Communication Technology and Road Safety"

    On September 30, 2009, within the framework of II St.Petersburg International Innovation Forum, a Russo-Finnish roundtable «Smart Road: Information and Communication Technology and Road Safety» was held. The session was attended by the representatives of St. Petersburg, the members of the Finnish Group of Advisors at the St.Petersburg Government, representatives of the Ministries of Transport of Russia and Finland, the Traffic Police and Traffic Police of Finland, as well as the heads of relevant scientific and commercial organizations.

    On September 30, 2009, within the framework of II St.Petersburg International Innovation Forum, a Russo-Finnish roundtable «Smart Road: Information and Communication Technology and Road Safety» was held. The session was attended by the representatives of St. Petersburg, the members of the Finnish Group of Advisors at the St.Petersburg Government, representatives of the Ministries of Transport of Russia and Finland, the Traffic Police and Traffic Police of Finland, as well as the heads of relevant scientific and commercial organizations.

    Organizers of the Forum are Administration of St. Petersburg, the Finnish Group of Advisors at the Government of St.Petersburg, and information and consulting company «Eurofacts» (Finland).

    The round table continued Russo-Finnish dialogue on the issues of road safety, launched in 2005 as a part of the first Russo-Finnish forum on safe driving.

    At the roundtable, the possibility of using intelligent systems in traffic was discussed, as well as the new technologies in the organization and technical inspection, innovative solutions for construction and equipment of the roads.

    The purpose of the roundtable was to draw attention to the opportunities provided by innovative technologies and the Information Society created in Russia, to address the problem of road safety.

    The round table participants considered it expedient to prolong into the future the dialogue started. In this relation a proposal was made to elaborate on the possibility and feasibility of organizing a second session of the Russo-Finnish forum on road safety in the autumn of 2010.
