    This year, Navruz in St.Petersburg has got a special scale: for the first time in our city, the Eastern New Year was jointly celebrated by the people of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Dagestan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

    On March 22, Stadium “Zenit” was filled with the fairs, tables offering the ethnic cuisine dishes, and playgrounds. The exhibition of children’s drawings on Novruz was deployed here, as well as photo display “Faces of Tajikistan”; the quiz was held on the knowledge of customs and cultures of the peoples involved into the traditions of Navruz celebration, and the contest on drawing on the pavement. The visitors were also able to participate in ethnic games, for example, the belt wrestling Kuresh – the game of Turk peoples that recently became a popular sport. The atmosphere of the traditional Navruz celebration was contributed by the actors. The festival was concluded by an ethnic fashion show and a gala concert, performed by creative teams from the associations for ethnic cultures of St.Petersburg.
