The fifth session of the Inter-Governmental Russo-Croatian Commission for Economic Cooperation was held at «President Hotel» in Moscow on February 18, 2009. St.Petersburg Administration was represented by E.D.Belyakova, Head of the Office for Coordination of Foreign Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation at the Committee for External Relations.

The issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation were discussed, as well as the main directions of its development, and the implementation of the decisions of the fourth session of the Commission was considered.

Participants have observed that not every available opportunity for intensification of bilateral trade and economic relations was exploited. The parties also stressed that one of the most promising areas of cooperation is the cooperation in the energetics area. This is due to the adoption by Croatia a new economic strategy, along with Russian proposals concerning the following areas: construction of new power plants and electric lines in Croatia, the upgradal of power plant equipment and network facilities, and the supply of Russian energy equipment for the existing power plants of Croatia.

At the end of the session, the parties signed several bilateral agreements aimed at further strengthening the cooperation between two countries.
