16 March, 2018 in the Light Hall of Smolny an International conference dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the first arrival of Comrade Nguyen Ai Kuoka (Ho Chi Minh) in Petrograd was held. Participants - experts and scientists, Russian and Vietnamese youth, students, cadets of the Naval Academy - discussed topical issues of cooperation between the two countries, as well as prospects for the development of Vietnamese-Russian relations.

The vice-governor of St. Petersburg Mr.Markov and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Vietnam to the Russian Federation Comrade Ngo Duc Manh, who arrived on his first working visit to attend the Conference, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

Emphasizing the importance of the event, Mr.Markov noted that "Russian-Vietnamese cooperation continues and grows stronger, extending to virtually all areas - humanitarian, cultural, economic, scientific, educational and many others. Such events as today help to bring the youth of the two countries closer together, passing the baton of friendship of peoples to the future."

In his speech to the audience Ngo Duc Manh noted that the relationship between Russia and Vietnam has traditionally been friendly since the country was founded by the country's leader Ho Chi Minh. "He began his political path and revolutionary struggle for the freedom of the Vietnamese people from Petrograd, therefore it is very symbolic that we discuss here the theme of the friendship of our peoples under the name of Ho Chi Minh."

The idea of celebrating the anniversary of the visit of the leader of Vietnam to Petrograd was born during the visit to St. Petersburg of the chairman of the Vietnam parliament Com. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in October last year. During this time, an extensive program which is connected with this event, was developed and is already under implementation not only in St. Petersburg, but also in the sister city of Ho Chi Minh City.

The culmination of the celebration will be the holding of a cultural and business forum in St. Petersburg on May 17-19, which will be attended by delegations from the twin cities of Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa Province.

    For reference:

In the framework of his trip to St. Petersburg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Russian Federation Comrade Ngo Duc Manh also met with the Governor of St. Petersburg, Mr. Poltavchenko, the leadership of the Committee for External Relations, visited St. Petersburg State University and the first Ho Chi Minh Institute outside Vietnam.
