    12 February, 2018, Deputy Chairman of The Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg Mr. Kalganov met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Russian Federation, Com. Ngo Duc Manh

    The meeting took place under the framework of the solemn reception to commemorate vietnameese Lunar New Year - Tet Holiday.

    During the meeting, Mr. Kalganov on behalf of the Governor of St. Petersburg Mr. Poltavchenko conveyed his greetings to Mr. Ambassador in connection with his appointment to the post. In his congratulatory speech, Mr.Poltavchenko noted that the Government of St. Petersburg highly appreciates the friendly relations between the northern capital of Russia and the regions of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Governor of St. Petersburg also outlined some plans for the implementation of joint projects, in particular, events dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the first arrival of Comrade Nguyen Ai Kuok (Ho Chi Minh) in Petrograd. "I am confident that preserving the memory of the historical events that connect our countries will create a solid basis for building up joint work in the future,"  said Mr. Poltavchenko in his congratulations.

    In his turn, Com. Ngo Duc Manh confirmed Vietnam's readiness to develop cooperation with St. Petersburg. "We will continue to expand investment cooperation, increase bilateral trade turnover, and first of all, use the effectiveness of such traditional spheres of cooperation between our countries as energy, oil and gas," he said.

    Mr. Ambassador also noted that the trade turnover between Vietnam and Russia increased by a quarter in 2017. Moreover, in order to consistently increase the growth rates of trade and economic cooperation, the need of more actively using of the opportunities provided by the Agreement on the Free Trade Zone between Vietnam and the EurAsEC was expressed.

    In addition, Com. Ngo Duc Manh noted the special role of St. Petersburg in the development of twinning relations at the regional level.

    For reference: 10 high-ranking delegations from Vietnam visited St. Petersburg in 2017.

    At the end of the meeting, Mr. Kalganov on behalf of the Governor of St. Petersburg Mr. Poltavchenko conveyed to Mr. Ambassador his greetings with the Lunar New Year - Tet to the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Com. Chiang Dai Kuang, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the Central Control and Audit Commission of the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party Com. Chan Kuok Vyong, who visited St. Petersburg last year.
