On December 15, 2017 Russian-Vietnamese business forum was held in St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event was organized with the support of the government of St. Petersburg.

The forum was attended by more than 100 representatives of the business community, government agencies and regions of Vietnam.

During the talks, the participants discussed prospects for expanding bilateral trade, technology exchange and investment cooperation.

Welcoming the forum participants, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on external relations of St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Kalganov highly appreciated the joint initiatives for the cooperation development.

The relations of our city with Vietnam are experiencing a real Renaissance.

During the 2017, we were visited by 10 high-ranking delegations, including President of Vietnam Chang Dai Quang, Chairman of the national Assembly Nguyen thi Kim Ngan and the leadership of the Communist party of Vietnam

However, it was noted that the political rapprochement had not yet resulted in increased economic cooperation.

"Therefore, the most important task of the government of St. Petersburg at present is to eliminate this gap," Vyacheslav Kalganov stressed.

The representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Russian Federation, comrade La Minh Thang, noted that the rapid growth of the Vietnamese economy, which in some periods overtakes even China, creates great opportunities for attracting investment to the country and for the import of high-tech products and technologies.

“The free trade zone agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian economic Union, which has entered into force, plays a special role in the development of Russian-Vietnamese economic cooperation. Already now it is possible to tell with confidence that it gave positive effect. The growth of trade turnover with Russia made up 27% for the first 10 months of this year, exceeding $ 3.2 billion. We expect by the end of 2017 it will reach $ 5 billion, which will be the highest level in the history of our relations” - said La Minh Thang.

However, he also agreed that the cooperation potential between Vietnam and St. Petersburg in the economic sphere has not yet been disclosed. “The growing level of trust allows us to hope that the leadership of the city and our country will be able to create the most favorable conditions for the growth of mutual investments and trade” - the representative of the Vietnamese Embassy concluded.
