    Regular meeting of Youth Discussion Club at Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg took place

    The event was attended by representatives of the scientific community of St. Petersburg - scientists, orientalists, political scientists, as well as students of St. Petersburg State University, Higher School of Economics, Herzen State Pedagogical University, Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics. Among the guests of honor were Dr. Vladimir Kolotov, Ph.D., Professor, Head of the Department of History of the Far East, St. Petersburg State University, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of American Studies, Yulia Boguslavskaya, political scientist, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science of Herzen University, a member of the Board of Directors of the International Educational Association “Debates” (IDEA) Sergei Naumov.

    Within the framework of the meeting, Gleb Petrunov, a student at the Oriental Faculty of St. Petersburg University, delivered a report on the main paths for development of Iraqi Kurdistan.

    Representative of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg - a leading specialist of the department for monitoring and coordinating of foreign economic activity projects of the Department for External Economic Cooperation, the author of the book “Uncrowned Kings of Red China. Clans and political groups of the PRC» Nikolai Vavilov talked about the current economic and social situation in China, new directions in Chinese politics following the results of the 19th Congress of the Communist Party, the prospects for relations between Moscow and Beijing, as well as the influence of intra-Chinese sentiments on the Russian agenda.

    According to V.Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, “The main purpose of the meetings of the discussion club organized by the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg is, first of all, to enable young researchers studying current problems of world geopolitics to present their a vision for a broad audience, discuss the most pressing issues and analyze all aspects of the topic. We hope that the results of the discussions will lead to interesting publications, inspired by the discussions that have taken place. “

    The next meeting of the St. Petersburg Youth Discussion Club is scheduled for December 21, 2017.
