    On November 3, 2017 in Smolny, the chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Mr. Evgeniy Grigoriev, met with the first deputy head of the department for international relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Mr. Chan Dak Loy

    During the conversation, the parties discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, including the expansion of trade and economic ties, cooperation in shipbuilding, water treatment and water disposal, contacts in science and higher education.

    The Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Mr. Evgeny Grigoryev, noted that there were always strong friendly ties between St. Petersburg and Vietnam.

    Many prominent figures of Vietnam studied in Leningrad universities. Thus, the head of the delegation, Mr. Chan Dak Loy, is also a graduate of the Leningrad Institute of Cinema Engineers. Mr. Evgeny Grigoryev recalled the words of the secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, Mr. Nguyen An Tuan about the importance of inter-university cooperation, delivered during his visit to St. Petersburg on August 18, this year. He said exactly: "Currently, there are many people among the leaders of our country who have received education in the Soviet Union, including at the Leningrad State University. These cadres showed their high qualifications when they withdrew our state from the crisis and successfully carried out economic reforms."

    In response, Mr. Chang Dak Loy on behalf of the Party said that he fully shares the position of St. Petersburg, and expressed the Vietnamese side's sympathy for the Russian leadership and foreign policy of the Russian Federation. "We have a full strategic understanding," he said.

    Also, Mr. Chang Dak Loy invited the delegation of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg to visit Vietnam and confirmed the need to organize a joint conference to mark the 95th anniversary of the first arrival in St. Petersburg of Comrade Nguyen Ay Kuok (Ho Chi Minh) which is scheduled for June 30, 2018.

    Reference: The idea to hold the conference was announced during the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, on October 15,2017.

    At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Mr. Evgeny Grigoryev, thanked Mr. Chiang Dak Loi for appreciating the interstate relations and supporting the policy of the Russian Federation and reaffirmed his intention to develop trade and economic cooperation between St. Petersburg and Vietnam.
